Interwaste offers a wide variety of solutions to assist clients with the safe de-packaging, destruction, or disposal of their products incorporating materials recovery in this process wherever possible. Every solution is designed to meet circular economy principles and clients’ specific needs.
We are driven by our purpose of serving land and life to ensure the sustainable preservation of the environment for future generations. Innovation and the protection of biodiversity sits at the heart of our business and is considered throughout our design process. Our ultimate aim is to provide clients with solutions that are compliant, economically viable, environmentally safe and socially conscious.
We have a long track record in providing clients with totally secure, confidential, and auditable services in managing the responsible and ethical handling of their products which includes zero waste to landfill solutions.
Our site on which we offer several safe destruction, separation and recovery processes is fully permitted by DFFE and GDARD and is ISO 14001:2015 accredited.
We have developed and invested in processes and technologies to assist clients with ensuring the safe destruction, separation, recovery, recycling, and disposal of a wide range of product types such as food products, alcohol, pharmaceuticals, consumer goods, footwear and apparel, electronic products (TVs, cell phones, navigational devices), aerosols, jewellery, redundant assets, tobacco products, counterfeit goods, narcotics, marketing materials, office paper, archive boxes and sensitive documentation.
Depending on the product type and client’s requirements, we have various processes both manual and technical to de-package products. Packaging is separated from the product and all materials are recovered for recycling or re-use purposes where possible. This process covers a wide range of packaging materials such as fibre, plastic, glass, cans, multi-layered packaging and aerosols as well as WEEE (waste from electronic and electrical equipment).
With the implementation of POPIA (Protection of Personal Information Act), many companies are required to safely destroy sensitive documentation, records, and archived material. Interwaste offers sorting, shredding and bailing services to support clients with such requirements.
In alignment to specific needs and product make-up, materials recovered can be recycled, re-purposed for alternative use, converted to a refuse derived fuel (RDF) or when requested and applicable, disposed of to a licensed landfill site. For clients requiring a zero waste to landfill solution, their products will be assessed upfront by our team of specialists to determine which applicable alternative solutions are available to meet this goal.
Our high security facility provides recorded footage from our CCTV system of the entire destruction and recovery process from time of goods receipt until processing is completed. All data storage is securely managed and accessible by authorised persons only. CCTV footage of the process is available to clients, and a remote log-in to witness real time processing of products is also an option. We also welcome clients to witness the destruction process in person from our customer viewing room in this specific facility. It is also possible to hire the entire facility and provide private security personnel should this be necessary.
All electronic and administrative records are kept on site for 5 years, and all data storage is “shadowed” as an additional precautionary measure.
We do not divulge information on clients’ products or activities to third parties. As per our policy, no cell phones or any form of handheld recording devices are allowed in our facility. Due to the confidential activities undertaken at our facility, we are unable to provide contactable references however examples of the types of products and clients we have assisted are provided.
We welcome our clients to visit our facilities however, we do request visits are scheduled prior to arrival to avoid any delays in the event we are processing sensitive items.
We offer a unique service for high value items or clients that require the destruction and recovery process to be recorded. Some key features in this facility include:
Rates for safe destruction and recovery processes are determined upon understanding a client’s specific requirements. Depending on the type of product, quantities and nature of the solution required, rates are generally charged per Kg or Ton of processed goods. In the case of very challenging items, a time related or additional handling fee may be charged. Smaller quantities may be subject to a minimum fee. Processing times are also dependant on the above factors.
Interwaste continually explores and invests in new technologies. After successfully conducting projects processing different product types including packaged food and consumer goods as well as the counter liquid pharmaceuticals, we invested in specialised de-packaging and separation equipment.
All projects successfully achieved both separation and processing targets from a volume and time perspective.
